Apparently, Steve was in a motorcycle accident a few days ago. He was seriously injured in the accident. I believe he is in Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. I trust we will keep Steve in our thoughts and prayers as he recovers.

Subj: update on Steve

Bruce,

Would you please forward to the Houston group the following update on Steve? Thanks. Fred

Monday, July 26

Steve had a successful operation Friday (7-23) to set and stabilize two breaks to his left collarbone. He broke most of the ribs on his left side, had a collapsed left lung, a concussion with a little bleeding near the front of his head, the clavicle breaks, contusions and a lot of bruising on his upper left side.

He was up, sat in a chair, and walked (assisted) quite a way in the hallway today. Since he is off of the heavier drugs he seems to be more interested in eating and has enjoyed sitting up in a lounger. His head and lung are still issues at this point, and both are being monitored, but his caretakers seem to be cautiously optimistic for a full recovery. Thankfully, both issues seem to be improving and his mind seems okay. He is very much better than when we saw him last Saturday.

From what we know, it appears that a woman changed lanes (apparently she didn't see the motorcycle), hit it, throwing him off, and he landed on his upper left side. If you are familiar with Austin, it was on the feeder lane going to Mopac after leaving Rt 71 traveling west. Gaye thinks it was grassy where he landed because his contusions on hands and face are not as severe as if he had landed on pavement.

We saw him Friday and will go to Austin again this week; Gaye and Micah are keeping a close eye on him while he is in Brackenridge, and will continue when he is able to go home, which I suspect may be some time this week. Before he goes home, he will be taught how to move, get out of bed, get into a bathtub, etc. so that he can avoid any reinjuries.

Fly Safe,
Fred & Jan
